Flossing is a key component of maintaining healthy teeth and oral hygiene. Here are some tips:
1. Scrape BOTH sides of your tooth to swipe the plaque off. It’s not enough to simply floss between your teeth. Use your index fingers and thumbs to guide the direction of your floss. Flossing properly takes time!
2. Floss at least once daily to prevent plaque and tartar build-up. If you only floss every few days, harmful bacteria builds up and can lead to dental issues (gum disease, cavities, etc.). Your home care is essential to your oral health.
3. Use clean sections of floss as you move around your mouth to avoid spreading bacteria between your teeth. If one part of your gums has an infection, you may end up spreading that infection to other parts of your mouth and gums. With that said, don’t re-use floss; it negates the purpose of flossing because it is coated with bacteria and looses its strength!
